Sarpsborg 08 FF returned to Sarpsborg Stadion for the first time since July, hosting Sandefjord Fotball in Eliteserien Round 18 on Sunday 16 August. Despite the excitement of a home comeback, the hosts fell to a 1–2 defeat. The stadium now braces for its busiest run of the 2026 season, including a local cup derby against Sparta Sarpsborg.
A Long-Awaited Return to Sarpsborg Stadion
Sarpsborg 08 FF finally returned to their home ground on Sunday 16 August, welcoming Sandefjord Fotball in Round 18 of the Eliteserien. With kick-off set for 17:00, the match marked the club's first home fixture since July — a wait of several weeks that had fans eager to fill the stands at Sarpsborg Stadion once again.
The match carried added weight given the congested run of fixtures surrounding it. Before making the trip home, Sarpsborg 08 had faced tough away assignments at Molde and Viking's Lyse Arena.
A Result to Forget on Home Soil
Despite the anticipation, the afternoon did not go to plan for the home side. Sarpsborg 08 FF fell to a 1–2 defeat against Sandefjord Fotball, a result that will sting in front of what was expected to be a strong local turnout at the 8,022-capacity stadium.
The defeat is a setback, but the fixture list offers little time for reflection. Sarpsborg Stadion is now entering what could be the busiest and most exciting stretch of its 2026 calendar.
A Packed Schedule Still to Come
Far from a quiet end to the season, Sarpsborg Stadion now heads into a rapid-fire run of home dates. A Norwegian Football Cup tie against local rivals Sparta Sarpsborg is pencilled in for 22–23 August, a fixture that promises to be one of the most charged atmospheres the ground has seen this year.
That is followed by an Eliteserien clash against Vålerenga on 7 September, with Rosenborg then visiting on 18 October and the season finale against Brann set for 6 December. For supporters who have waited weeks for a home game, the wait is now very much over — and the stadium's most important weeks of 2026 are just beginning.
