Sandefjord Spoil the Party as Sarpsborg Begin Busiest Home Run
Sarpsborg 08 FF returned to Sarpsborg Stadion in Round 18 of the Eliteserien on 16 August after a lengthy away spell, only to fall 1–2 to Sandefjord Fotball. The defeat came at the start of the club's most intensive three-week home run of the 2026 season, which also featured a local cup derby and a community girls' football festival.
Home Defeat to Sandefjord Ends August Wait
After a lengthy run of away fixtures stretching back to July, Sarpsborg 08 FF finally returned to Sarpsborg Stadion on Sunday 16 August for their Round 18 Eliteserien clash against Sandefjord Fotball. Supporters packed the stands in anticipation, but it was the visitors who left with all three points, winning 1–2.
The defeat was a bitter pill for a home support that had been starved of football at the stadium for weeks. Heading into the match, Sarpsborg 08 had already suffered a 2–1 away loss to league leaders Viking FK at Lyse Arena on 8 August and a 3–3 draw at Molde on 2 August — a sequence that made the home return all the more eagerly awaited.
A Busy Spell Ahead at Sarpsborg Stadion
Despite the result, the stadium calendar offers plenty to look forward to. The Sandefjord fixture was just the first in the club's most intensive three-week home run of the 2026 season. A local NM Cup derby against FK Sparta Sarpsborg followed on 22–23 August, before an Eliteserien clash against Vålerenga rounds off the run on 7 September.
Sarpsborg 08 currently sit ninth in the Eliteserien table with 22 points from 17 matches, making home form a crucial factor in any push up the standings in the second half of the season.
Girls' Football Festival Adds Community Colour
Off the pitch, Sarpsborg Stadion played host to a community celebration on Sunday 23 August. In partnership with Allidrettsdagen and Sarpsborg Idrettsråd, Sarpsborg 08 organised a girls' football festival at the stadium — a family-oriented event aimed at inspiring the next generation of female footballers in the region.
The festival underlines the stadium's role not just as a match venue, but as a hub for the wider Sarpsborg sporting community — a theme that will continue into the autumn as the ground hosts back-to-back major fixtures in the weeks ahead.
