Sandefjord Spoil the Party at Sarpsborg Stadion
Sarpsborg 08 FF fell to a 1–2 home defeat against Sandefjord in Eliteserien Round 18 on Sunday 16 August, ending a long wait to return to Sarpsborg Stadion on a sour note. The loss comes just over a week after the club's impressive away win over league leaders Viking FK. Attention now turns swiftly to a Norwegian Cup derby against local rivals Sparta Sarpsborg.
Defeat at Home as Sandefjord Claim the Points
Sarpsborg 08 FF suffered a narrow 1–2 defeat to Sandefjord Fotball at Sarpsborg Stadion on Sunday 16 August in Round 18 of the Eliteserien. The result was a blow for the home side, who had entered the match on the back of a morale-boosting away victory over league leaders Viking FK just eight days earlier.
It was the club's first home fixture since late July, and supporters had been eagerly anticipating the return to Sarpsborg Stadion after a lengthy gap between home games.
A Stadium Ready to Roar — But the Visitors Had Other Ideas
The atmosphere inside Sarpsborg Stadion was described as electric ahead of kick-off, with demand for tickets having been high ever since the fixture was confirmed. The club arrived in good form, sitting seventh in the Eliteserien table with 22 points from 16 games, level with Brann and HamKam.
Despite the energy from the stands, Sandefjord — currently 13th in the table — left Sarpsborg with all three points, handing the hosts a narrow and frustrating defeat.
What Comes Next for Sarpsborg Stadion
The loss does nothing to diminish what remains a packed home schedule. Sarpsborg 08 are set to face local rivals Sparta Sarpsborg in the first round of the NM Cup on 22–23 August, a local derby that always raises the temperature inside the ground.
On Sunday 23 August, the stadium will also host a Girls' Football Festival, organised in partnership with Allidrettsdagen and Sarpsborg Idrettsråd — a community celebration of the women's and girls' game in the city. A further Eliteserien home match against Vålerenga is scheduled for 7 September, rounding off the most intense three-week home spell of the entire 2026 season.
