Sarpsborg 08 FF suffered a narrow 1–2 home defeat to Sandefjord Fotball in Round 18 of the Eliteserien on Sunday 16 August, a result that stung given the occasion — the club's first home fixture at Sarpsborg Stadion since late July.
The match had been keenly anticipated after an extended absence from home, and the terraces were primed for a strong performance. Instead, it was Sandefjord who left with all three points, deepening the frustration among the home faithful.
A Packed Schedule Softens the Blow
Despite the defeat, the stadium calendar offers little time for dwelling. Sarpsborg Stadion is now in the middle of its most intensive home spell of the entire 2026 season — three home fixtures across three consecutive weeks.
Next up is a Norwegian Football Cup local derby against Sparta Sarpsborg, scheduled for 22–23 August. Cup derbies between city rivals have historically generated some of the most charged atmospheres inside the ground, and supporters will be looking for a swift response following Sunday's league setback.
A further Eliteserien home clash against Vålerenga follows on 7 September, rounding off a defining stretch of home football at Sarpsborg Stadion.
Girls' Football Festival Adds Community Colour
While the football results may have disappointed, a landmark community event is set to bring a different kind of energy to the stadium this weekend. A Girls' Football Festival is scheduled at Sarpsborg Stadion on Sunday 23 August, organised in partnership with Allidrettsdagen and Sarpsborg Idrettsråd.
The festival is a celebration of women's and girls' football in the city, and its staging at the stadium adds a meaningful community dimension to what is already the busiest fortnight on the venue's 2026 calendar.
Tickets for upcoming home fixtures remain on sale through the club's official channels. Sarpsborg Stadion has an official capacity of around 7,500 supporters and features a 105×68-metre artificial pitch.
