Sandefjord Spoil the Party, But Sarpsborg Look Ahead
Sarpsborg 08 FF fell to a 1–2 home defeat against Sandefjord Fotball in Round 18 of the Eliteserien at Sarpsborg Stadion on 16 August. The loss stings, but the club has since confirmed cup progression — and the stadium's busiest three-week home run of 2026 is now well under way.
Defeat on Home Soil
Sarpsborg 08 FF suffered a narrow 1–2 home defeat to Sandefjord Fotball in Round 18 of the Eliteserien at Sarpsborg Stadion on 16 August 2026. It was the club's first home match since July, and despite strong supporter appetite for a return to the terraces, the visitors left Østfold with all three points.
The result was a blow to the hosts, who had come into the fixture on the back of a 2–1 away defeat at table-topping Viking FK at Lyse Arena on 8 August — meaning back-to-back league losses heading into a crucial period of the calendar.
A Packed Home Programme Continues
Despite the setback, attention at Sarpsborg Stadion quickly turned to what lies ahead. The defeat to Sandefjord was only the opening fixture of the stadium's busiest three-week home spell of the entire 2026 season.
A Norwegian Football Cup city derby against local rivals FK Sparta Sarpsborg was scheduled for 22–23 August, followed by an Eliteserien clash against Vålerenga on 7 September. Three home fixtures across three consecutive weeks represent the most intensive run of the year for the stadium and its supporters.
Cup Progress Confirmed
Good news arrived swiftly after the league disappointment. Sarpsborg 08's official channels confirmed on 22 August that the club had progressed in the Norwegian Football Cup — adding competitive momentum to what promises to be a pivotal fortnight at Sarpsborg Stadion.
With the cup derby against Sparta Sarpsborg taking centre stage, fan interest in the stadium is running high. Local derbies historically raise the temperature in the stands, and this cup tie is expected to be no different.
